Australian Mining Industry Annual Lecture 2017
Wednesday, 7 June 2017. Arthur Streeton Auditorium, Sofitel on Collins, Melbourne.
The lecture, sponsored by BHP Billiton, was established in 2015 as an initiative of the MCA to promote the role and contribution of the minerals industry in Australia. The inaugural lecture was delivered by the distinguished historian Professor Geoffrey Blainey AC on the topic ‘Mining and the Australian People – the long view’.
The event highlights the industry’s leading role in indigenous economic environment as the nation commemorates the 25th anniversary (3/6/1992) of the Mabo decision and the 50th anniversary of the indigenous right to vote in the 1967 referendum (27/5/67). It positions the MCA in the public policy sphere. It is a good news story that showcases how the mining industry has responsible procurement, addresses indigenous issues and mining best practices.
