In developing the Australian Minerals Industry Code for Environmental Management, the minerals industry wishes to demonstrate its commitment to excellence in managing the environmental aspects of its operations. The Code provides a framework and is the centrepiece for an ongoing program of continual improvement in environmental management.
The Code was initially launched in December 1996. Throughout 1999, the Code underwent a substantial review process involving several months of stakeholder consultation. The outcome of that review is an updated Code (2000) which appears below.
As at 1 January 2002, 39 companies had committed themselves to the Australian Minerals Industry Code for Environmental Management (2000).
The Australian Minerals Industry Code for Environmental Management was formally retired on 1 January 2005 and replaced by Enduring Value - the Australian Minerals Industry Framework for Sustainable Development.
