Through its commitment to sustainable development, as articulated in Enduring Value, the Australian minerals industry is committed to the following ICMM principles, related to community and environmental health:
- Implement risk management strategies based on valid data and sound science;
- Seek continual improvement of our health and safety performance;
- Seek continual improvement of our environmental performance;
- Facilitate and encourage responsible product design, use, re-use, recycling and disposal of our products; and
- Implement effective and transparent engagement, communication and independently verified reporting arrangements with our stakeholders.
To help build industry capacity in community and environmental health risk management, the MCA has developed the following guidance material:
- Community & Environmental Health – Chemical Substances of Possible Relevance to the Minerals Industry > Download PDF
- Risk Communication in the Australian Minerals Industry – Principles, Tools and Opportunities > Download PDF
- Life Cycle Analysis Primer – Materials Stewardship and Life Cycle Analysis in the Australian Minerals Industry > Download PDF
Development of the first report highlighted the need for the supplementary material, and therefore, these documents should be considered together. These reports have been designed to assist companies to operationalise their commitments to the ICMM principles, Enduring Value and the broader pursuit of sustainable development.
