Pre Conference Workshops
The Australian Centre for Minerals Extension and Research (ACMER) will be running two pre-conference workshops at the Crowne Plaza Alice Springs
Sunday 30 October and Monday 31 October
Since the MCA developed The Australian Minerals Industry Sustainable Development Framework “Enduring Value”, the principles and elements have provided a roadmap for Community Development and engagement. To assist companies in their adoption of this, a strategic partnership has been formed with the Australian Centre for Minerals Extension and Research (ACMER) for the communication of, and capacity building in, the practical application of sustainable development principles and practices particularly in the social arena.
The Working with Communities workshop will provide industry professionals, mine management and community practitioners with an overview of community engagement and sustainable development principles. The Working with Communities course seeks to build practical knowledge for the implementation of stakeholder engagement, community modelling and establishing frameworks for the development of mutually beneficial partnerships.
This course would be of benefit to anyone who interfaces with the community including mine managers, exploration geologists, environmental professionals and community relations specialists.
Monday 31 October
ACMER has been working with MCA and industry colleagues to develop a workshop program that will highlight how Materials Stewardship is being implemented in practice by minerals industry companies and also by other industries. This workshop will complement the theme on MS that is to be presented within the MCA Sustainability Conference on Tuesday 1 November 2005.
The workshop will increase understanding of, and build capacity in, materaials stewardship in the minerals industry, translate materials stewardship theory into practical tools to industry members/sectors not currently engaged on materials stewardship issues, showcase examples of materials stewardship along various value chains and at sites, and showcase examples outside the minerals industry where implementation of a materials stewardship approach has produced significant financial benefits to the business.
The workshop will benefit members of the minerals industry not currently involved in materials stewardship or those grappling with the concept, companies down the various supply chains, technical product managers, marketing managers, asset managers, HSEC managers, company corporate personnel, environmental managers and metallurgists, procurement and suppliers to minerals companies.
