Call for Papers

The Minerals Council of Australia is calling for papers for the 2007 Sustainable Development Conference (SD07).  The annual MCA Sustainable Development Conference is recognised internationally as the leading minerals industry forum for sustainable development and its practical implementation through cooperative partnerships with industry, government and community.

The 2007 Conference will focus on nine (9) key themes and issues
affecting the industry -

• Water
• Energy
• Skills and Employment
• Access to Capital
• Impacts Beyond Life of Mine
• Land Access and Use
• Measurement and Reporting
• Stewardship
• Positive Legacies Post Closure

SD07: A Climate for Change will bring together leaders, experts and practitioners from around the world.  The conference offers speakers the opportunity to exchange ideas, information and practical examples of sustainable development.  The five-day program will explore global, national, and regional issues and solutions.  Throughout the week delegates will be challenged by case studies, presentations, workshops and tours.

YOU ARE INVITED TO SUBMIT AN ABSTRACT FOR CONSIDERATION

Papers, presentations and interactive sessions are sought from global, national and regional based practitioners from industry, government, community, industry partners, NGO’s and academia.

Papers should address one of the nine (9) key themes and provide delegates with:

• An understanding of the intersection with all aspects of SD, including safety and health, economics, social and environmental management

• An identification of key learning’s and challenges and clear ‘take away’ messages that can be applied in their work and partnership activities.

HOW TO SUBMIT AN ABSTRACT FOR CONSIDERATION

• Submit by close of business Friday 6 April 2007
• Ensure Biography, photograph and contact details are submitted with abstract
• Check that all fields on the MCA Abstract template are completed

IMPORTANT DATES

• Abstract Submission Submit by close of business Friday 6 April 2007
• Notification of abstract selection by Friday 11 May 2007
• Full papers are due on Friday 7 September 2007

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

• Presentations are expected to run at 20 – 25 minutes and there will be a Q&A with delegates at the end of each session.
• Speakers will receive one complimentary, one-day registration per presentation.
  
• Speakers are responsible for all other expenses associated with participation in the Conference.
• All contact details, biography and photograph must be submitted at the time of abstract submission.
