The Minerals Council of Australia (MCA) awarded three Australian Minerals Industry Research Scholarships in Adelaide on 1 December 2016. 

The scholarships facilitate research and training in areas of practical value to the Australian minerals industry and are provided to enhance the research experience with industry partners. 

The scholarships are worth $20,000 each and are open to existing full-time Ph.D. and post-doctoral researchers.

The inaugural recipients of these prestigious scholarships are:

  • Hang Wang from the University of Adelaide for her Ph.D. research Modelling of Natural Oxidation of Pyrites in Refractory Gold Ore Stockpiles to Improve Gold Recovery (industry partner is Newcrest)
  • Phillippa Dodshon from the University of Queensland for her Ph.D. research Critical Risk Control Management (industry partners are Rio Tinto, Thiess)
  • Laura Petrella from the University of Western Australia for her Ph.D. research Controls and Genesis of Gold Mineralisation within the Dead Bullock Soak Mining Lease (industry partner is Newmont).

The MCA will be offering these scholarships again in 2017.
