Global coal boom to continue, says Minerals Council of Australia

This week, 60 prominent Australians called for a ban on new and expanded coal mines.

But Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull says there will be no moratorium.

Coal miners themselves—in spite of the current slump—anticipate a prolonged coal boom in the future, mainly driven by Asian economies.

The Minerals Council of Australia says in south east Asia alone, demand for coal is expected to grow 80% by 2040.
