MCA Victorian Division welcomes initiative to bolster state’s power generation by 500 MW

The Minerals Council of Australia Victorian Division welcomes the release of the Victorian Liberal National Party policy calling for the building of a 500MW power station.

Energy prices and reliability are a major issue confronting Victorian businesses.

Since the close of Hazelwood Power Station, wholesale energy prices have increased by more than 80 per cent and Victoria is no longer a major net exporter of electricity, increasingly dependent on power from New South Wales.

500MW of new power supply which is available 24/7 is a welcome step to help restore reliable and affordable power supplies which are crucial for Victorian industry while meeting Australia’s Paris commitment of a 26-28 per cent reduction of 2005 CO2 emissions by 2030.
