NEW REPORT DEBUNKS MYTHS ABOUT MINING EDUCATION AND TRAINING

The Australian mining industry spent almost $1.15 billion training people for work in the last financial year, the first comprehensive study of the sector’s contribution to vocational education shows.

MCA - QUARTERLY ECONOMIC BRIEF - AUTUMN 2013

Global growth slowed in 2012, but some improvement in economic conditions late in the year points to a modest reacceleration of activity in 2013. While the growth outlook for a number of large economies remains subdued and the global economy vulnerable to new setbacks, risks appear more balanced at the start of 2013 based on an improved outlook in the United States and China.

WORKING GROUP ON NATIVE TITLE TAX TREATMENT

The Minerals Council of Australia welcome’s the Government’s announcement of a working group to examine the tax treatment of native title payments. The MCA in partnership with the NNTC and key academics developed the Indigenous Community Development Corporation model, which is a special purpose vehicle for managing native title and other payments negotiated by traditional owners and Indigenous Groups to maximise economic and social benefits, reduce administration, incentivise investment and intergenerational accumulation.
