The Victorian minerals industry congratulates the Premier-designate Daniel Andrews and the Australian Labor Party on its election victory and looks forward to working with the new Government to further the sustainable development of the Victorian resources sector.

The Victorian minerals industry employs 15,000 Victorians, mostly in regional areas and contributed $6.5 billion to the state in 2012-13.

There is considerable scope for an expanded contribution by Victoria’s minerals sector, building on the state’s resource base including brown coal, gold, mineral sands and base metals, as well as unconventional gas reserves. Victoria will also remain a major hub for the global mining industry, including the vibrant mining equipment and technology services (METS) sector.

The industry looks forward to a productive and constructive relationship with the incoming Andrews Government with a view to contributing to a stronger state economy.
