The Minerals Council of Australia’s Uranium Forum has today released a range of material that demonstrates the potential benefits of further developing Australia’s uranium industry.

‘Uranium: Untapped Potential’ includes a poster, a series of videos featuring industry experts and voices, and social media material highlighting the untapped potential further growth of the uranium industry offers Australia.

On the back of the South Australian Royal Commission into the nuclear fuel cycle, the material is designed to showcase facts on the table about the uranium industry and the benefits it can provide to the Australian community including the creation of hundreds of jobs.

With Australia possessing approximately a third of the world’s low-cost uranium resources, the potential benefits are large.  Research undertaken by leading economists Professor Sinclair Davidson and Dr Ashton de Silva last year showed that Australia’s uranium industry could expand from its current state of around 3000 direct and indirect jobs and $600 million per annum value, to over $9 billion per annum value with over 20,000 direct and indirect jobs by 2040.

Nuclear energy is the only of baseload, reliable electricity with near zero emissions which can be readily deployed around the world.  In a carbon constrained world, it is clear that nuclear energy will play a strong role in providing reliable electricity to millions of people while reducing CO2 emissions.  Australia’s vast and largely untapped resources will be vital fuel for an energy hungry world.

Uranium: Untapped Potential also highlights the important role of nuclear medicine and its uses in diagnosing and treating many serious illnesses including cancer.

The material will be released on the Minerals Council of Australia’s social media platforms:
