By becoming an EnviroSmart school and developing a School Environmental Management Plan (SEMP), students will -

• develop a greater understanding of the impact of people on the environment;
• gain a greater appreciation of the principles of sustainable development;
• use their understanding of environmental management practices in the Australian minerals industry to apply environmental management strategies within their own school environment;
• be able to identify the elements of the school environment that they can manage more effectively;
• acquire knowledge and skills to manage these key elements of the school environment;
• design and implement an effective mechanism for monitoring, evaluating, reviewing and reporting a SEMP;
• critically assess the value of encouraging others to improve environmental performance via an agreed code of principles, as is now being done within the Australian minerals indudstry;
• develop an understanding of the benfits of effectively communicating performance in environmental management; and
• make a commitment to environmental management practices at both the individual and community level.
